Karlad Lake
A freshwater lake set up for activities — zip-lining, kayaking and zorbing — for guests who want a more active day out.
Karlad is a freshwater lake that has been set up for people who want a more active afternoon than a boat ride. A zipline runs across the water, and there is kayaking, zorbing and coracle riding, with the operators and safety equipment on site.
It is a good counterweight to a trip otherwise made of temples and viewpoints, and it works well for older children and teenagers who have run out of patience for scenery.
What to expect
Activities are charged individually and most have age or weight limits, so check before committing a group. Mornings are quieter. The lake itself is pleasant enough for a walk if you would rather stay dry.

The largest earthen dam in India, held between misty hills with a scatter of small islands across the reservoir. Boating, photography and unhurried sightseeing.
Kuruva Island
A protected river delta on the Kabini, made up of evergreen forest and quiet channels. Reached by raft, and closed during the monsoon when the river runs high.
Thirunelly Temple
One of Kerala's most ancient temples, set below the Brahmagiri hills and surrounded by forest and mountain streams. Known for its spiritual significance and its stillness.
Pakshipathalam
A cave and birdwatching trail deep in the Brahmagiri range, reached on a forest trek. Best for early risers and serious birders.
Edakkal Caves
Prehistoric rock carvings believed to be over 6,000 years old, depicting human figures, animals and symbols. A short trek up leads to wide views over the hills.
Chembra Peak
The highest peak in Wayanad, best known for the heart-shaped lake on the way up which is said never to dry. The summit opens onto the Western Ghats in every direction.
